The initial prognosis for Elias Lindholm was an absence of a ‘few weeks’ after suffering a lower-body injury last Thursday against the Buffalo Sabres. On Monday, Marco Sturm said that the injury was what was expected, and the MRI confirmed that, leaving Lindholm “week-to-week”.
In the second period of a 4-3 overtime win over the Sabres, Lindholm collapsed at center ice after appearing to be hit knee-to-knee with Buffalo forward Jordan Greenway in an inadvertent collision. Lindholm was helped off the ice by trainers while putting very little weight on the leg.
The 30-year-old center has nine points with four goals and five assists through 12 games in his second year with the Bruins. Lindholm has a salary cap hit of $7.75 million through the 2030-31 season.
Marat Khustnudinov scored the eventual game-winning goal against Buffalo and has been subbing for Lindholm as the top-line center. The Bruins have won three straight games and will travel to Long Island to face the Islanders on Tuesday.
